Our story

CAQA Voltline Electrical

CAQA Voltline Electrical is a licensed electrical contracting business that installs, tests, services and maintains electrical, electronic, refrigeration and renewable energy systems for commercial, industrial and residential customers across Melbourne, Geelong and central Victoria. The work ranges from switchboard upgrades and commercial fit-outs to cold room fault finding, rooftop solar and battery installations, security and data cabling, and scheduled test and tag and emergency lighting programs. Customers include cold storage operators, owners corporations, schools, dental practices, shopping centres, aged care providers and engineering workshops. Voltline employs sixteen apprentices and takes pride in training the next generation of tradespeople.

The business is organised into six departments. Electrical Contracting runs new installations and projects from the Braeside head office, with a Geelong branch for the western region. Service and Maintenance operates a fleet of eleven service vans across the three sites on a 7:00 am to 4:00 pm roster with an after-hours on-call electrician. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Solar and Battery, and Electronics, Security and Communications are specialist teams that share the Braeside workshop and stores. Safety, Quality and Business Support looks after licensing, training, safety, quality, scheduling, purchasing, payroll and invoicing for the whole business.

Voltline works under the Electricity Safety Act in Victoria, the Wiring Rules, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the environmental rules for refrigerant handling. The business holds registered electrical contractor status, and its tradespeople hold the electrical, refrigerant handling, cabling and solar accreditations their work requires. Every energised piece of work is covered by a no live work rule, a documented isolation and testing procedure, and a certificate of electrical safety issued after testing. Test instruments are calibrated to a register, safety incidents and electric shocks are investigated, and the quality system is audited internally every quarter with a management review each January.

What we stand for

Nobody works live

Every circuit is isolated, locked, tagged and proven dead before work starts. There is no job urgent enough to break this rule.

Test everything, certify honestly

Every installation is tested to the Wiring Rules and the results are recorded exactly as measured. A certificate is a promise to the customer and the regulator.

Grow good tradespeople

Apprentices are taught properly, supervised closely and given real responsibility as they earn it.

Leave it better

Sites are left clean, customers are told plainly what was done and why, and refrigerants and waste are handled so the environment is protected.

Compliance

The rules we work under

The simulated business follows the real laws, standards and regulators of its industry, so the documents and scenarios reflect genuine obligations.

  • Electricity Safety Act 1998 (Victoria) and Energy Safe Victoria
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Victoria) and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011
  • AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules and related Australian Standards
  • Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989 and the refrigerant handling licence scheme
  • Clean Energy Regulator small-scale scheme and solar installer accreditation requirements
  • Australian Communications and Media Authority cabling provider rules
