Shared neutrals: isolate the whole circuit group, not just the breaker
Following last week's electric shock at a customer site, every electrician and apprentice is reminded that switching off a single breaker does not isolate a shared or borrowed neutral. Identify all sources, isolate at the main switch where the circuit arrangement is unclear, lock and tag, and test every conductor for dead. A toolbox talk will be held at each site this week.

Instrument calibration checks before every job
Two instruments were found out of calibration in the past month. Before every job, check the instrument register for the tester you are using and write its identification on the test sheet. Instruments due within thirty days show a flag; tell Zoe so calibration can be booked. An out of calibration instrument must be tagged out and left in the workshop.

Apprentice progress reviews in October
Quarterly apprentice progress reviews will be held in the first two weeks of October. Each apprentice will meet with their supervisor and Fiona McAllister to review their training plan, off the job results and the supervision level for the next quarter. Supervisors, please have your notes on tasks completed and competencies observed ready.

Refrigerant cylinder reconciliation, last Friday of the month
The monthly refrigerant cylinder reconciliation will take place on Friday 25 September at the Braeside workshop. All technicians must have their refrigerant handling log entries complete and their cylinders back in the cage by Thursday evening. Any cylinder mass that does not reconcile with the log will be investigated with the technician.

Voltline apprentice awards evening
Our annual apprentice awards evening will be held on Friday 27 November at the Braeside workshop from 5:30 pm. Families are welcome. Awards will be presented for apprentice of the year in each department, safety leadership and the best test sheet of the year. Please let Zoe know your numbers by 13 November.
